La Nueva Patrulla 15 is a merengue group that arose following the breakup of Jossie Esteban y la Patrulla 15, a Dominican group that was popular throughout the 1980s and '90s. Founded in 1979 in the Dominican Republic by Jossie Esteban (vocals; born Esteban Grullón) and Alberto Martínez (piano; aka Ringo), the group recorded a long-running series of albums in association with the labels Gema Records (1979-1981), Artomax Records (1982-1983), TTH Records (1984-1992), and Platano (1993-1997). Moreover, the success of Jossie Esteban y la Patrulla 15 spawned a couple spin-off groups: the girl group Las Nenas de Ringo y Jossie (notably featuring among its membership Olga Tañón prior to her superstar solo career) and the boy band Caña Brava. After nearly two decades of success, however, the partnership of Esteban and Martínez splintered in 1997, marking the end of Jossie Esteban y la Patrulla 15. While Esteban embarked on a solo career, Martínez continued to work behind the scenes as a pianist, arranger, and producer for artists such as Adán Cañuelas and Alex el Bizcochito. Meanwhile, Martínez teamed up with former Sabrosos del Merengue vocalist to form La Nueva Patrulla 15 (i.e., "nueva" as in "new") and release albums from time to time, including Ahora e' Que, Que, Que, Eh (2002), Más Allá... (2004), and Cantando Arnaldo Vallellanes (2008). ~ Jason Birchmeier, All Music Guide.
